West Africa – Recently Médecins Sans Frontiéres revealed that the Ebola outbreak in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa was out of control. Some 400 people have so far died as a result of being infected.
UK – To many in the UK wartime leader Winston Churchill is a national hero. In a recent radio 4 survey he was voted the greatest Briton of all time. In short he has been canonised. He is a saint as far as the great British public is concerned.
South Africa – This week we were treated to a ghoulish spectacle. A parade of political midgets, no marks celebrities and business tycoons trying to milk the all the publicity that they could from Nelson Mandela’s death. They were all there because they had to be seen there.
South Africa – Tonight we saw the passing of a great man. Possibly the greatest man of the 20th century. Former South African president Nelson Mandela has died at the ripe old age of 95. After a long illness.
Egypt – To most westerners any mention of the Qattara depression take their minds off to the heady days of autumn 1942 and the defeat of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps at the second battle of El Alamein.
